In 1873, Levi Strauss and Nevada tailor Jacob Davis patented the process of putting rivets in pants for strength, and the world's first jeans, Levi's® jeans, then called "waist overalls," were born. In 1897, Strauss donated money for scholarships at Berkeley where half of the recipients were women. On the fashion front, the company created the first blue jean for women in the 1930's, introduced the wrinkle-resistant STA-PREST® slacks in 1964, introduced the successful Dockers® line in 1983, and in 2003 introduced the Levi Strauss Signature® brand line of value-priced quality jeanswear for men, women and children.
